BABYMOON ACTIVITIES & UPCOMING EVENTS 2015

There’s a never ending selection of things to do in Amsterdam – so whether you’re visiting for the weekend or for a fortnight, here are some great activities to do while on Babymoon in Amsterdam.

  • Soak up some culture in Museumplein. Visit Rijksmuseum with over 8,000 pieces to see, like Rembrandt’s greatest work, The Night Watch.
  • Take a Canal Cruise
  • Discover Amsterdam’s Parklife. Amsterdam is home to over 30 parks. You’ll never be short of a picnic spot in Amsterdam. More than just leafy escapes from the urban hustle, parks are at the heart of Amsterdam culture.

  • Spend the evening drinking in a former tram depot. Located in the newly hip Oud-West area of the city, De Hallen is a brand new centre for the arts, crafts, fashion and food in a recently refurbished industrial building dating from 1902. De Hallen houses a cinema, independent stores and a boutique hotel, as well as the impressive Food Hallen – a food and drink heaven where visitors can munch their way through a selection of upmarket street food from one of many vendors located around a central bar. Visit on a Saturday for the weekly local goods market sets up stall in the building’s central passage way.

  • With Turn on the Lights, Amsterdam’s luxury department store de Bijenkorf opens the festive season in brilliant spectacle and festive cheer every November. (19 November 2015, 19.00-22.00) The special free event on Amsterdam’s Dam Square traditionally kicks off at 19:00 with a magical theatrical show. The climax of the performance is the illumination of hundreds of thousands of energy-efficient LED lights on the façade of the majestic de Bijenkorf building. After Turn on the Lights, de Bijenkorf organises a special late night shopping event, staying open until 22:00 to allow visitors to pick up some early Christmas gifts or have a bite to eat at the international restaurant.
Amsterdam Light Festival

  • Although he looks a bit like Father Christmas or Santa Claus, ‘Sinterklaas’ (Saint Nicholas) is a very Dutch character loved by children and adults alike. His annual arrival and parade in Amsterdam and the traditional festivities that follow are a real treat! 15 November 2015
  • The Amsterdam Light Festival is set to return on 26 November 2015, running until 17 January 2016, (literally) putting Amsterdam’s beautiful city centre and its canals in the limelight.2015/2016 marks the fourth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. Look out for dedicated canal cruises and a walking route (aka the Illuminade) taking in the selection of spectacular illuminated artworks. Also keep an eye out for guided tours and an extensive side-programme that will see a host of activities and events take place at museums, theatres, restaurants, shops and other locations in Amsterdam.Head to the Amsterdam Light Festival website for more information and exclusive updates about the participating artists.
  • Coming up in February 2016, the Nine Months Fair
For five days every year, Amsterdam’s cavernous RAI Amsterdam is transformed into a paradise for (prospective) parents. The Nine Months Fair returns from 24 to 28 February 2016.
